ADVICE FROM REAL BRIDES

Lynn

DO:

We gave each guest a beautiful crystal votive holder and a votive candle when they arrived at the ceremony. The guests then lit their votive and placed it on a table which we were married in front of. It made a lovely sight with all of our friends and families candles lit on the table. My husband and I lit one candle for those who could not be with us. During the ceremony our minister explained that this was our way of connecting everyone with us. At the end of the ceremony each guests took their crystal votive cup home with them.

DON'T:

Never trust that everything is going as planned. I would have been more specific and strict with the wedding party regarding their being dressed and ready when the limo showed up. Other people dilly dallied, and when it came time to get ready they were unprepared in putting on their tuxes. So, I spent time getting them ready and then I was rushed when the limo showed up because by that time, we were late. I was stressed out and forgetful.

DO:

The whole day was perfect but I'm really glad we spent a little bit extra money and hired a truly professional photographer. They stayed out of the way during the ceremony, and then for the official photos they helped everyone relax, were great with the kids, and made it lots of fun. The photos turned out gorgeous, and we've now got an album full of beautiful pictures to bring back all those memories.

DON'T:

Try and no be late! That was the only thing that really stood out on the day. I was about ten minutes late getting ready to walk down the aisle--so by the time I was actually doing it, I was stressed.

DO:

My husband John has a six-year-old daughter from a previous marriage. I really wanted to include her on our special day, so I gave our Pastor special vows for she and I to exchange. John then placed a gold heart pendant around her neck, and I said "With this heart, I promise to be a loving and caring step-mommy to you. I promise to always be there for you in times of need and I will love you with all my heart for all the days of my life". There wasn't a dry eye in the house, including mine and hers. Arianna is a wonderful addition to my life and I was glad I could show her how much she means to me.

DON'T:

I would not have done the Money Dance. I can't believe how awkward I felt. Originally, I said that I didn't want to do it, but all my friends kept telling me how great the extra money was on their Honeymoons. I could have done without the extra money and the embarrassment of the DJ asking people to come and dance with you. Oh yeah, and bring a $20 would ya? Yikes!!!
